MaFLA offers a variety of awards, scholarships and fellowships for both students and professionals. These awards are available to current MaFLA members.
Student Awards
Past Presidents' Scholarships - MaFLA awards up to 2 scholarships of $1,000.00 annually in honor of our past presidents. Scholarships are awarded to high school students who have demonstrated excellence in foreign language study and service/leadership within their school
MaFLA Students Awards for Scholarship/Leadership - MaFLA has an awards program for students of foreign languages in public and private schools in Massachusetts.
Awards categories

One award for excellence for each language per school. This certificate is conferred upon the student who has demonstrated excellence (highest achievement) in the most advanced course of each language taught in each school.

One award per high school to the student who has distinguished himself/herself for leadership in foreign language activity.
Professional Awards New Teacher Commendation - MaFLA's mission encompasses the mentoring, support and professional growth of new teachers in the profession. This commendation and accompanying stipden ($250) recognizes and awards new teachers for demonstrated excellent. Distinguished Service Award - Awarded for exceptional and meritorious service to the foreign language proession in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the MaFLA Distinguished Service Award acknowledges individuals who have, through their dedication and commitment to the field of foreeign language education, made a significant contribution to the profession. MaFLA Service Awards - These awards honor retiring foreign language teachers and those with 25 years of service in the foreign language teaching professions and are presented at the Annual Meeting each year. Member Scholarships and fellowships Helen G. Agbay New Teacher Graduate Study Scholarship - The Massachusetts Foreign Language Association has established a $1,000 scholarship to honor the member of Helen G. Agbay, a founding member of MaFLA who served on the board for many years in numerous capacities. This scholarship has been created to financially assist a current foreign language teacher who is in the process of earning a master's degree in foreign language education. Elaine Batting Award - MaFLA has established a $1,000 scholarship to honor the memory of an outstanding teaching of Latin in Massachusetts. Elaine Batting served on MaFLA's Board of Directors from 1990 until her untimely death in 1994. NECTFL/MEAD Leadership Fellows Program - The Northeast Conference, in collaboration with its 14 state association members, sponsors a program designed to identify potential leaders in the profession and to support the development of their potential. MaFLA has been authorized to select the awardee from Massachusetts. Cemanahuac Educational Community/MaFLA Scholarship - This cooperative effort between the Cemanahuac Educational Community and MaFLa offers a full two-week scholarship for a MaFLA member at the Cemenahuac Educational Community in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Spanish Embassy Scholarship for a Member of MaFLA - A scholarship for study at one of sixteen Spanish universities offering summer institute is awarded to a MaFLA member by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington.
