MaFLA Podcast Contest

THEME: Gateway to Global Communities

MaFLA is pleased to announce a new video podcast contest for PreK-12 students of MaFLA members! In an up to two minute video podcast, students will demonstrate in English how they understand and interpret the 2010 MaFLA/ACTFL conference theme: "Languages: Gateway to Global Communities." Each school may submit up to three entries for each of the following categories: elementary school (grades PreK-5), middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) and we are adding a college level to this contest, as well.

Be creative! The MaFLA/ACTFL conference theme can be addressed in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, a speech/soliloquy/address, a poem, a song (raps included), an advertisement, a public service announcement, or a skit.

This new contest was created to take place during March, concurrent with our Poster and Essay Contests .

The MaFLA Podcast Committee will select one winner in each of the three categories. The prize for the winner in each category will be $50 awarded to the student creator of the video podcast (to be split if there are 2 students) and $50 to the school, to be used by the nominating teacher for activities in the winner’s class. Entrants’ podcasts will be showcased on the MaFLA website. Please download all forms from the MaFLA website.

Submission Guidelines

Participation is limited to students attending public or private school who are enrolled in a K—16 world language class of a MaFLA member.
The total video podcast length is not to exceed 2 minutes in English, though other languages can be used to support the message. Required formats are MP4, MPEG, MOV, MPG, AVI, WMV.
Each podcast must be burned onto a CD.
Maximum of three entries (per category), per school can be accepted.

Participating teachers need to fill out and mail the Contest Entry Form, the Parental Permission Form and the CD to the contest chair Adina Alexandru

All entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2010.

Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will not be considered. MaFLA is not responsible for CDs that are lost or damaged in transit. Submissions become the property of MaFLA. Please check our Website in the coming weeks for all the contest information and necessary forms. We look forward to your school’s participation!

Judging Criteria Content:

Is the audioclip engaging and appropriate to the theme of the contest?

Creativity: Is the message innovative and creative?

Execution: Is the use of technology effective and appropriate?

Effect: Was the overall effect achieved in communicating to the audience?
